From Slavery to Freedom 1

Gen 2:15-17 – Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. 16) And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17) but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”  In this case die means to “dispatch one to their death”.  In their disobedience God had to removed them from the garden and cut them off from the tree of life.  Rom 5:12 – Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned.

God created all mankind to subdue and take dominion over every living thing on earth, accept one another.  Gen 1:28 – And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.  When Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating of the “Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil” they relinquished their authority over the earth and every living thing on it.  Rom 6:16 – Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?  There can be no real dominion when all mankind became slaves to sin.  There appears to be from the perspective of the enslaved, but it is only the sin working within them, proceeding from a self referential nature and sin under the influence of the devil who holds them in a snare to do his will.  It was by default that the devil became the ruler of the world and all mankind became subjects, enslaved to  sin and the devil, keeping unbelievers and even many believers under his control.

Col 2:20 – Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments (orderly arrangement) of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances. When Adam and Eve sinned satan took control of the world to bring about an orderly arrangement with its foundation laid in cunning and deception, to fully exercise his power to kindle the power of sin in us, which would bring our subsequent death and separation from God.  Sin coupled with the self referential nature became the devils snare to cause all mankind to do his will.  The devils will is to steal, kill and destroy any resemblance to God on earth of whom we were made in the likeness and image of.  Sadly the devil keeps most from becoming son’s of the God.  Matt 7:13-14 – “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.  14) Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.  As believers we should know that there must be the testing, trials, and tribulation for all mankind for a refining and purifying to manifest the elect of God.  1 Peter 4:12-13 – Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13) But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. The the devil will influence many to come to their own destruction, but for those that overcome, their sufferings result in refining and purifying of the elect of God, for many are called but few are chosen.  2 Tim 2:25-26 – In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26) And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.  Recover themselves means to return to soberness,” as from a state of delirium or drunkenness, some translations interpret the word as senses.

Matt 4:8-9 – The devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9) And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” The devil acts as if he is the ruler of the world and he is.  Although the “earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness”, in principle,  God’s ultimately rules over the affairs of all creation, but there is a legal precedence that  He must follow because of His word. Legally the devil usurped authority and dominion from Adam and Eve.  All humanity became subjects to sin and the devil.  2 Cor 4:4 – In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.  We can see here the need of a savior, because we have no resistance against the devils wiles. John 14:30 – I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me. God did not lose control, He establish a path of refining and purifying for the elect, while at the same time allow other to go to their death because they refused the free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Rom 1:19-21 –  Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20) For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21) Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

1 Cor 15:42-44 – So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: 43) It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: 44) It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. The Greek word used for sensual means having the nature and characteristics of the principle of “animal life”, which men have in common with the brutes. The Strong’s Concordance calls it the “lower bestial nature.  This shows us how much mankind is lost in the sensual nature and sin”.  Pride blinds unbelievers and most believers from the reality of who we really are, without Jesus Christ.  Ps 144:3-4 – O Lord, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You think of him? 4)  Man is like a mere breath; His days are like a passing shadow. How sad a state humanity has fallen to.  Our five senses of seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching make us just like the warm blooded mammals we inhabit the earth with.  The self referential nature in Adam and Eve was enough, through the cunning of the devil to cause both of them to sin against God by eating of the forbidden fruit.  God originally gave us these five senses to connect with and enjoy His creation and to know Him.  When the knowledge of good and evil entered into them they saw that they were naked, shame entered and they hid from God.  The whole time prior to this they were naked together in the garden and God would come into the garden and commune with them, without  shame or guilt.    Their disobedience to God and the eating of the fruit of the “Tree of God and Evil” introduced them to knowledge of good and evil.  Sin entered producing the lust of the flesh and connected to their five senses.  This with the the knowledge of both good and evil imprisoned them to a death sentence.  They came to know what they did was evil and a violation of all that is good and they were afraid and ashamed of what they did and fearing God they covered themselves to hide their trespass against Him.  This had to be a shock, to suddenly receive knowledge of both good and evil and with it experience the passion of lust, the guilt of their disobedience, with shame and fear.

There is no earthly escape from these driving passions of the members of our flesh, being consumed and aroused through our five senses.  It is these senses which God gracefully honored us with to enjoy His creation and experience His presence in our lives, but through this one transgression, these senses became the instruments of our death, of which He told Adam and Eve if they disobeyed Him, “in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”  Mankind actually became of a lower nature then the animals they share these senses with, because the animals continue to follow out Gods purposes instinctively using their senses for what God created them for.  It was meant to be the same for us, but in this case unlike the animals we must choose whom we will faithfully, love, obey and serve, God or our own selfish desires.  Thank God for Jesus Christ, the Cross and the redemption from sin through His blood, as the Spirit of grace has brought to us His divine power and has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4) by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.(2 Peter 1:3-4)
